REDCap allows a study to collect data both through health professionals and directly from participants themselves.

Direct data entry (DDE) – typically used by health professionals, data are entered directly into the project database through any device connected to the Internet such as a PC, iPad or mobile phone.  Where an Internet connection is unavailable or unreliable the offline REDCap mobile app can be used and data is added to the live system at a later stage.

Online surveys – participants can create a new record by clicking on a generic link, or they can be sent a unique link which connects them to a participant ID.  Subsequent surveys are set to send automatically as and when specified.
